To paint or not to paint. . . . .

We got a great deal on this table and I want to paint it white & shabby it up, & my husband isn't sure.

I just love the carving & detail on it thought it would look great painted white & distressed up a bit.

What do you think? I would love to hear your thoughts!!
I am going to slip cover my chairs also to make them to look like Parson's Chairs.

Beautiful table oh gosh I am not much help because I think it would look great either way as is or shabby. I think you should cover the chairs first and see how it looks with the table. But I am leaning more towards shabby.

Peace and Blessings

Bunny ~ It's a gorgeous table and what a deal!! I have mixed feelings about painting it, it's truly gorgeous with all of the intricate work on the legs. If I was going to paint it, I would paint it all white, then where all the detail on the legs are, after it was painted white, I would go over it with a color you are using in the fabric on the chairs, to really make the design pop. I think it would be gorgeous painted! Go for it!

I have nominated you for a "Blog Award" ~ please stop by my blog and pick up your award!

Can't wait to see pictures of the table when you get it completed, I know it will be gorgeous! Mimi

I get a lot of the "your crazy to paint it!" too from my dad. He tells me I take away from its antiquity worth. I don't care about its worth; i just want what seems to be pleasing to my eye. I think you are getting a lot of opinions from all of us shabby lovers and we all adore the white shabby look. But Mimi is right. Painting it white will take away from the intricate design. So, either distress it in that area by sanding it to look worn and the pattern will stand out more or carefully paint with a matching color like Mimi said. Couldn't help but notice that you're on the Island too, like me!

I have also nominated you for a "Blog Award" ~ I guess Mimi beat me to it but you truly deserve both awards.

Can't wait to see what you choose!! It is going to be beautiful! Shabby would be much quicker than stripping it. But, I love wood grains too. I am so glad you got the blog award. I still have to pick out my eight people. Have a blessed day!

Stay warm!

I just happened to find you via Cindy's MRH blog. :o)

The table is gorgeous as-is but will be gorgeous if you paint it white and distress it.

I am no help at all. ;o)

I think the table would be gorgeous white as well but I love the wood too. I tend to only paint if there are flaws in the wood and I can justify it. This table seems gorgeous as is so I don't think I would touch it. Maybe use if for a while as it is and when it starts getting scratched up and banged up a bit then you can paint it. You will have best of both worlds- wood now- white later!
